  27. A motion jpeg card from Applied Magic. Includes composite, s-video and
  28. BetaCam component i/o, LTC and VITC support, genlocks to external
  29. systems, and includes editing software called Producer. Producer offers
  30. drag and drop list editing, a visual timeline, a variety of rendered transition
  31. effects, a way to animate overlayed 8 bit text and graphics, a nice database
  32. for logging and managing large editing projects, and ARexx control of digitizing 
  33. and playback. There are a wide variety of digitizing options from really blocky 
  34. for offlining (it has limited support for CMX list exporting) to quite reasonable 
  35. video quality. Producer runs fine in workstation resolutions on graphics cards 
  36. (I use a GVP Spectrum at 1120/832), and Producer uses multiple windows in 
  37. its interface.

  39. The current hardware is called the Broadcaster Elite. The system uses
  40. the SunRize AD516 for audio. It's not as mature as, say, the Media 100,
  41. but it offers a lot of features for a lot less money, and (big plus) it runs on 
  42. the Amiga (with a port underway for the upcoming standard PPC machines).

  44. I redid the Elite/Producer manual for Applied Magic, and they're currently
  45. shipping a preliminary version of that manual with the final version to ship 
  46. with the upcoming Producer 2.0. I'm still waiting for my Elite card and am 
  47. using an older DB32 card which is fine for animation layback but puts faint 
  48. lines on digitized video. The Elite does not have this problem. The DB32 and 
  49. Elite use a field dominance that is opposite from that used by the PAR. 
  50. Depending on your software this may be a problem for some people when 
  51. field rendering. There is a workaround which involves losing the first and
  52. last fields of an animation which I haven't tried yet. The newest LW and the
  53. next WCS have the ability to choose field dominance.
